[Blog] So Now What Do We Think of Keane? Written by superblueflude on Tuesday, 3rd Nov 2009 11:56
So finally we have that long awaited win, yet there a still hundreds of fans out there still calling for Keane's head! Why?
OK so we're still bottom, we all knew that one win might not have done enough to move us up, however we were very unlucky to have both Reading and Plymouth winning on the same day.
Anyway, what was so great about the win was the way we won ugly - look at the Watford game, we played beautifully then to have it snatched away. For me this win will do something magical to the team, I feel the pressure will be much less, meaning more creative runs from defence, more urgency from the midfield and even the strikers may feel that they can make a risk with certain runs. So, for all those people still calling for the manager to be sacked, take a reality check on our current situation, yes, bottom, but a win on Saturday and more than likely we will be out of the bottom three, then a win against Sheffield Wednesday will take us up another couple of places. We are four games unbeaten, I think it's only two losses in 10 games as well. This is actually very very good, yes, wins would have been nice but still it's a good stat. Our defence looks really solid, and although everyone keeps commenting on the one-man strike force from Derby, go back five or six games and I'm sure even then the defence would have struggled. The midfield looks good, a bit of tweaking maybe and although I keep praising Trotter I can now accept that maybe he shouldn't start - that doesn't mean I'd bring Garvan back, who by the way looks terrible at the moment - certainly not banging on the first team door. I'd play Quinner in that role or maybe even try Leadbitter there and push Edwards into the attacking midfield role, creating the opportunity for Walters to move out wide which we all know is his best position. The biggest problem is the front two, I felt so angry with Stead, scoring two goals in reserves, scoring against Plymouth but then did nothing when he started. Could he be better coming off the bench I wonder? Maybe starting with Priskin and Couñago is the way to go, we will see. Now the reason I'm mentioning all of the above is to ask, why do we still see fit to moan about Keane? He's doing well, creating a team worthy of climbing up the table. Now Delaney's looking good at centre-back for me Martin and Healy are the only signings which make you moan, but apart from them all others have been great, so for me you can't slate Keane for that.
I see a great future and a brilliant manager in Keane. What he did with David Wright was fantastic, for those that say Keane realised he made a mistake, I think you'll find he hadn't, he's brought Wright back in and he is fantastic, twice the player he was last year - granted he was always good but now he's excellent - for me that was Keane's work. So to summarise, two losses 10 games, four games unbeaten, stronger side, confidence up, for me the future is looking better and for me this is all because of one man - Keane.

some of us are seeing encouraging performances and a bright future, others are seeing crap performances both individually and as a team. I'm guessing we are all watching the same games? Someone on here yesterday declared that he was against keane's appointment from day one. So a fair and open minded person whose opinions we should all trust :-) Superblue, the vast majority of fans agree with your sentiments and i am glad that you are spreading something positive, thank you. While i do not believe that we will sweep all that stand before our mightiness i am confident that come the end of the season we will be safe and i continue to nurture the hope that the play offs are not yet out of reach, especially if we can pick up a couple of wins in our next few games

Norwichbeater. I have propblems with people like you who post that those knocking Keane don't watch the games. We do, and that's the problem. Yes, we are improving. But slowly, and from a very low position and we were pretty dire against Derby - don't let the win fool you otherwise. I can't understand what some of you are seeing. We are bottom of the table! What is so hard to grasp about that? Yes, we've got a win, yes the defence looks OK at the moment (against some of the worst teams in the division), yes some signings have been ok (but with caveats I've already mentioned) but blimey you'd think we were still promotion contenders listening to some of you. I have a season ticket and have had for a lot of years. I cheer the team out and back - I do not boo. But that doesn't mean I'm happy at what I'm seeing on or off the pitch. And as this is the only place I can vent my feelings I do so. In just the same way as you blind optimists come on here and say everything is great. It's called a debate. We wouldn't post if we didn't enjoy it in some way. I don't think any of us are deluded enough to think that we're gonna change anything (anyway, I'm not even calling for a change of manager at the moment) we just want to vent our frustrations in some way.

I have not read all the posts so sorry if Im repeating things been said. I must admit I admire you opptomism superblueflude, but given the circumstances I think your blog, to say the least, is a tad extreme. That does not mean I'm part of the keane out brigade, infact Im very much the opposite and he has my full support, but to say he is doing well, atleast lookiing at the whole picture since he took over is not true, a team doing well with the money he has had to spend would surely not be at the bottom of the championship? Also u mention the team is looking stronger, and confidence is up...well surely rather than being testament to how well keane is doing, surely its more testament to how poorly he started. And lets lets face it, beating a derby team at hope who were so ravished by injuries is nothing to set the world alight. Like I say I am behind keane, and am confident we will climb out of this mess, but I think super u do have to be a little more realistic. Just imagine u were a follower of a different team, u were down the pub and the barman (lets assume a Man city fan) said "hey lad, how u think keane is doing down at ipswich?" bearing in mind we are bottom, if u said u thought he was doing well he'd most likely think your being sarcastic

Err, this is coming from someone with a season ticket. I have seen the improvement in the team, bu I still think thats not not a good enough reason for keeping keane, he gives ipswich town a bad name.

naa i am glad you have PROPBLEMS with people like me. Thats the difference between you and me, half glass full for me half glass empty for you.

Well yes you're right about the glass half empty (I have good reasons for that that I won't go into), but that still doesn't excuse you from making rash (incorrect) judgements about people with a different viewpoint to yourself. This is how Nazi Germany started you know ;-)

"Now the reason I'm mentioning all of the above is to ask, why do we still see fit to moan about Keane? He's doing well, creating a team worthy of climbing up the table." He took a team finishing just outside the playoffs to a team at the bottom of the table. So a massive step backwards? Anyway I'm for Keane so... yeah

DrJeckyll, it was me that said i didnt want to see Keane at the club from day one, cant see a problem with that ! i did go on to say that had he he improved things i would have been pleased,[but you just pick the bits out that suits you ,thats ok ]If the club had anounced they were appointing someone you felt was not the right person ,you would have been on here saying so too.

Is this so called blogger for real, have you seen the table, 1 win in 15 games, Keane's a clueless f@ckwit, a bully who is taking ITFC to the 3rd tier of English Football unless we get shot of the muppet. The guy I feel sorry for is Joe Royle did a good job with no money, if he had a quarter of what Keane has to spend I am sure we would be at least in the top six.

im happy with the win but our season has been a nightmare so far and we are playing better football but i do believe we will finish about 15th. I don't know how fans can say keane is doing well or the team, if you was a neutral fan and you saw ( 1 win in 15 games) you would say that is relegation form and the manager should be sacked! i think curbishaly will be in before xmas.

Nothing has changed for me. I still think he is the right man to lead us forward. Like it or not, it will take time. Roy is building a squad - same as JM tried to do. Difference is most allowed JM at least 2 years to build it before complaining of results half way through the thirsd season. JM failed to build a decent squad (league positions prove that) so Roy is having to start again. He will achieve.

Hmm, so Jim finished 1 point and 3 points off the play-offs. In his first year he spent -£1M as he had to sell and he had taken over a team that finished 14th. That;'s why people gave Jim time. When he had money to spend and didn't do it very wisely and didn't make obvious improvements we got shot of him - and most were happy to see him go. Keane took over a team only just outside the play-offs, he didn't have to sell anyone and indeed was allowed to spend fairly heavily. THAT'S why people aren't willing to give him 3 years. Added to that, his contract is only for 2 seasons and we are currently BOTTOM. We were never in that kind of danger under JM. I can't understand why people can't see this! OK, look for the positives (there are some), but surely you're able to acknowledge the negatives (we're bottom!).

A win is a win and I am celebrating it as much as any. But one swallow does not make a summer. It will count as nothing if we fail to beat Reading saturday

naa, actually Keano has a two year contract that then rolls year on year. He was offered a longer term but decided that two years was enough for him to deliver what the owner requires. lightning boy it is NOT your club, anyone who wishes Ipswich to lose just to back up his pathetic opinions is not a supporter and never will be. How you still post about no improvements in the team when you DONT go to the games is beyond comprehension, you sound like the sad callers on Radio Suffolk who pass comment on tactics etc when they listen or read trash in the rags. Gonefishing, did you not see us play against Southampton's youth team in the fizzy league at PR last season? That was the worst performance even through the Duncan era. jonnosdredlocks, dear troll you aint even worth responding to. ChambersM, Keano is a passionate winner and will do what is right for ITFC,he will produce a team that even the doubters will be proud of. We are still only a few points away from the playoff's even though we have had a slow start. The teams above will all go through tough times and we WILL go past them. Have faith in Keano because he will be here as long as he wants to because you doubters dont have the power to get rid of him. In Keano we trust. COYB

Im back! Dont agree with the main point in this blog that Keane is doing well! Yes we won one game, and hopefully that will now lead to more victories but we are still bottom and that is down to Keane! Yes the stat 2 defeats in ten looks good but 1 win in 16odd is terrible, especially given all the other points i.e where we finished last year, the signing e.t.c - you've heard em all before! Im not moaning but just think that this blog would have been better off coming after we win the next 3 games or are not bottom??????????????

It is our club but those who own and run it dont give a f**k about us the supporters and even more they dont give a f**k on our views about the manager. keen will go when it suits evans and long after evans has gone we the supporters will still be paying the price. Evans can argue that "I have the debt, I pay the bills, I do as I want,so you silly ill informed morons on this blog can say what you like." it really makes no odds"

i doubt anybodies view of Keane will have changed after one result. Also i doubt many will change their minds until either a very good or very poor set of results in the next few games. I want him to stay as things do seem to be slowly getting better but we do need to at least pick up 4 or 5 points from the 3 matches in November otherwise questions over his future may well have to be addressed. However as has been mentioned before, only Evans can make the decision to sack him so we may as well get behind the team and do our best to help them into a better position. Here's to getting tiddly in London!!
